There has always been an aura of contradiction around wine, some defending it and others cursing it. In fact wine is an alcohol and this should be taken in moderation and this is where problems arise, because what is responsible consumption ?.

Leaving aside the controversy we will now refer to the beneficial and even healthy qualities of wine, which also has it. We list some of these

1. Wine is a natural product

A good wine is made only from grapes, which is a natural product, without additives and which retains some of the properties of the fruit. Although not in large quantities, wine provides vitamins, many minerals and more than 10 essential trace elements.

2. Wine provides vitamins and minerals

The wine does not contain fiber and approximately 90% is water. The remaining 10% contains polyphenols, with cardiovascular prevention effect, including: phenolic or phenolic acids, flavonoids, anthocyanins, flavedos, tannins, quinones and resveratrol. The wine also contains between 2 and 4 grams of mineral salts per liter such as Potassium, Sodium, Calcium, Chlorine, Sulfur, Fluorine, Silicon, Iodine, Bromine and Boron. The wine also has small nutritional elements or trace elements, such as iron, copper, zinc and manganese. Some are rich in iron and contain vitamins B12, B6 and B2.

3. Sulfites do not cause a hangover the next day

Like bread, cheese, yogurt, and beer, wine also has sulfites, which occur naturally during fermentation. Sulfites are a natural substance present in many foods. There are wines that have sulfites added to those present naturally, as indicated on their labels, but these are not responsible for the hangover. According to recent studies, the person responsible for the hangover is histamine. High histamine levels can cause histaminosis, with headaches and sensitivities.

4. Alcohol does not fatten, wine little

Ethanol, the major alcohol in wine, has an energy power that is not useful to the body, so it is not a macronutrient. The macronutrients that metabolism takes advantage of are carbohydrates, fats or lipids, and proteins. As alcohol is not a macronutrient, it is rejected by the body and passes directly to the liver where it is degraded and eliminated. Thus, while micronutrients, trace elements in food and vitamins, as well as alcohol do not make you fat, macronutrients such as fats, carbohydrates and proteins do. Wine sugar is the only macronutrient that the body assimilates and is therefore fattening. But keep in mind that 1 gram of sugar has about 4 calories, so the wine will fatten as much as sugar has.

5. Women and men tolerate alcohol equally

Although there are several factors that alter the metabolic rate, gender is not one of them. Women metabolize alcohol just like men, and the metabolic rate of ethanol varies greatly from individual to individual, but not between the sexes. If it is affected by weight, physical activity and consumption habits. Women can drink the same amount of alcohol as men, always in proportion to their weight.
