Artuke El Escolladero: A wine of terroir and varietal expression.
Elaborated from a traditional blend of Rioja, this wine is made from 85% Ull de Llebre and 15% of Graciano, from an old vineyard located at 630 meters above sea level in the Alavé municipality of Ábalos.
The name "El Escolladero" refers to the steep access to the plot, a reflection of the difficulty and respect for the winemaking tradition of the area.
On the nose, El Escolladero displays an aromatic complexity that evokes a wide range of ripe forest fruits , such as blackberry and blackcurrant, accompanied by subtle spicy and floral notes.
This aromatic expression is the result of the slow ripening of the grapes in a continental climate, and of the spontaneous malolactic fermentation in large French oak barrels, which provides a creamy texture and lactic notes.
In the mouth, it shows as a powerful and concentrated wine, with fine and silky tannins that give it great elegance.
The minerality of the clay-limestone soil provides a marked personality, with notes of licorice and a long and persistent finish. Aging for 12 months in 600 liter oak barrels brings complexity and spicy contributions, without masking the fruit or minerality of the wine.
Pairing: Grilled red meats, game stews, cured cheeses and Iberian sausages.
Serving temperature: 16ºC.
This wine has a great aging potential, being able to evolve favorably during the next 10 -15 years.
