2021, a great vintage in the Baix Empordà
One of the factors that most influences us wine growers is the rainfall and this was below average of the last 30 years, a total of 489.3mm, (The average is 671mm). But the most remarkable thing is that it was divided into 5 episodes where the rain left about 50 mm per day. This section has several negative cash and some positive cash as given this year. The sprouting was correct with the Grenaches advancing as in the rest as usual. The spring of 2021 can be considered dry with the positive aspect it entails; Less or less attack by moisture-friendly fungi such as powdery mildew and mildew. The problem was that we arrived in early summer with a tired plant and a medium load of grapes. Summer was advancing and the grain did not want to swell, some leaves showed symptoms of weakness. Young plants needed external watering to survive drought. The big surprise came on August 4th when no one expected it. 45 liters in one day! Ecstasy in the field and the plants at the time they needed it most. The grapes swelled, the plant revitalized, the leaf worked again. It was the perfect push to get the best harvest. The result has been a healthy and very ripe grape that has allowed us long macerations giving the wine very present but soft tannins, a load of ripe fruit that brings sweetness to the wines accompanied by a feeling of sweetness that is only achieved with a harvest at the right time.
